Foundation in Fashion Design.
The Foundation in Fashion programme is structured with an emphasis on the development of academic hard & soft skills within the context of Fashion and also encourages active learning by engaging with relevant issues and helping students develop a personal creative practice.

PRESENTATION.
The Foundation in Fashion is a pathway to the world of fashion for all those who are considering pursuing higher education in Fashion Design.
The first semester of the programme teaches the essentials, including
fundamental knowledge related to codes, languages, trends, and art history and photography. During the second semester, the student will acquire the technical or specific skills to develop a collection.
FOUNDATION IN FASHION PROGRAMME
• Provide an introduction to design development techniques in order to create a collection and produce a final look.
• Develop a sketchbook, illustrations, fashion flats and a portfolio.
• Present the manual and digital techniques through which to communicate the project.
STUDENT PROFILE.
This course is aimed at all those interested in the world of fashion, in particular the different aspects of design who wish to have a first glimpse at this constantly evolving and fascinating industry.
SPECIFIC METHODOLOGY OF THE COURSE.
The Foundation in Fashion fosters active learning around themes relevant to the development of personal creative practice. To achieve this, the course is based on comprehensive study materials and resources developed by IED Barcelona.
Faculty members are active professionals that also form part of the teaching staff of the Undergraduate Degree in Fashion Design, the BA (Hons) in Fashion Design and the BA
(Hons) in Fashion Marketing and Communication.

• Provide essential knowledge, basic and management skills in the field of fashion, to be applied in university programmes in Fashion Design.
• Enhance creativity and personal style through a dynamic, open and multidisciplinary learning environment.

ACADEMIC ENGLISH AND FASHION LANGUAGE.
This module aims to equip students with the necessary language skills they will need in order to pursue a university degree in fashion. Students will study both academic writing techniques as well as specific fashion vocabulary. They will hand in an article at the end of the module applying their newly acquired skills.
INTRODUCTION TO ART HISTORY
Students will learn the appropriate tools to link concepts of art history in the professional field of design.
They will develop the ability to connect artistic concepts from past to present and reflect on the interaction between artistic production and its context. It allows students to gain knowledge and be able to analyse the meaning behind art. The module is theoretical and students will finish writing an essay demonstrating a personal opinion on society and art.
FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY
Students will learn the principal techniques and skills related to fashion photography.
Starting with a theoretical and historical base, they will then move onto learning practical skills to create and realise their own shooting. The module aims to empower students communication skills and help them present their ideas to an industry standard level.
ART AND DESIGN RESEARCH
This module aims to introduce students to basic art and design research knowledge, including structure, shape, color, space and volume. A combination of theory,
methodology, ideation and conception of a project allows the students to express their ideas in a sketchbook and exhibition. The student gains skills in construction, composition and transmission of ideas. The design perspective and criticism is presented through an interdisciplinary point of view.
FASHION DESIGN MODULES.
In the Fashion Design modules, students will make their first collection based on garment customizations.
They will do the whole process, from the design development, sketchbook, flat drawings by hand and digitally, illustrations, completion of the complete look, final photos and portfolio. The 5 modules work together
to help the student complete the collection.
